DECROCHER LA LUNE

In spring 2000, Koert Vermeulen joined the creative team of Franco Dragone, Luc Petit, the Regional Arts Centre of La Louvière and the City of La Louvière to produce an astonishing urban show, “Décrocher la Lune”

This very first urban opera was offering an exceptional experience for the public by mixing live performances, light show, professional and amateur artists, music and fireworks, parades and disguises.

The show’s designers created a symbolic character, Sancho, a giant puppet representing the collective imagination and the social engagement that reached the moon at the top of the Church.

The dreamlike show presented different vision of daily environment involving the public, artists, volunteers in this new ritual, this utopian quest for a better future, full of energy and hope.

The success of this spectacular show flourished in 2002 and 2006 edition, as well as in a long-term collaboration between Koert Vermeulen and artistic directors Franco Dragone and Luc Petit. On several occasions, Vermeulen was called to create a visual & lighting design for their spectacular shows and large-scale projects, such as “Le Reve” in Las Vegas, “Telenet” in Belgium or “Metinvest”in Ukraine.
